Sterman C M: Neuro-Linguistic Programming as Psychotherapeutik Treatment in Working with Alcohol and Other Drug Addicted Families. Journal of Chemical Dependency Treatment 4(1): 73-85, 1991.

Abstract: The focus of Neuro-Linguistic Programming is, from a psychotherapeutic perspective, on the various change processes that enable individuals and families to function with an increased repertoire of coping choices. NLP validates existing individual and interpersonal belief systems but seeks to expand these to accommodate more appropriate and useful ones based on implementing and building internal and relationship resources. This chapter presents an overview of NLP concepts and techniques relevant to families in addiction recovery. This includes reframing, use of representational systems particularly in calibration, development of rapport and congruent treatment strategies, anchoring techniques, and the trauma and phobia fixes.
