Gray R M: Tools for the trade: Neuro-linguistic programming and the art of communication. Federal Probation 55(1): 11-16, 1991.

Abstract: Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a technology for producing change based on the conscious manipulation of internal and external states and processes to elicit specific behavioral results. Among the useful tools presented by the NLP community is the technology of rapport. In the present context, rapport refers to a sense of trust and openness on the part of the client, based on the probation officer's ability to actively reflect the client's model of the world. Basic rapport skills, such as language matching and body position, are discussed. The relevance of the meta-model or transformational grammar to probation (e.g., the experienced interviewer is given a framework for honing skills) is addressed. NLP is about learning to communicate effectively and consciously and offers strategies for modeling and changing behavior. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2005 APA, all rights reserved).
